東方 Yukari & Aya | a Touhou Project videoshoot vfx breakdown【実写】
Originally, this was shot in a professional green screen studio back in Summer 2018 as part of a cosplay crossover music video. The project was never completed, 3 scenes out of 5 were shot. 2 of those scenes were repurposed into their own short films late last year. The Touhou scene was the last waiting to be edited.
This eventually happened in mid January 2021. All the shots featuring Yukari and Aya were puzzled back together with a new plot, a new location and adapting up-to-date engines for compositing.
, I'm glad to have waited over 2 years to tackle this scene. I doubt I would be any more efficient given the experience I had previously; technology I knew back then had its limits. The result now looks even better than I originally planned for! The idea of inviting a guest remotely was pretty cool too! This vfx breakdown does show that masking can also be done to some extent without green screen. I can definitely open more opportunities like this for future projects!

It's really inspiring to see a long, standing project finally completed like this. The tech improvements clearly made a big difference. Reminds me of when I returned to a basketball legends https://basketballlegends.fun match two years later and finally won it, same kind of satisfaction! Sometimes waiting truly pays off. Can’t wait to see what comes next!
! https://slopefree.org
